Simple hardware, common sense, can prevent children from falling out of windows
Dr. David Spiro, director of emergency pediatric medicine at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, said he sees between five to 10 such injuries a year around Oregon. The damage ranges from head injuries to blunt trauma to the abdomen and chest, as well as internal bleeding. Falls from 10 feet or higher can be fatal, Spiro said.
"We need to be doing a better job of protecting children," Spiro said. "Children are clearly at risk for these types of injuries. It's a repeating cycle."
